the first few years

Will be over soon. Those first few years. 7 more weeks of kindergarten, and Isaac will bid farewell to his preschool days. In another 3 months, he will step into the next phase of his life, as a Primary School student. Strangely, I do not feel nolstalgic about him growing up. I'm actually happy, knowing that I've been there for him and with him throughout his formative years. The only times I was really too busy was when I was working full-time during the first two years of his life, and the year when he was 4. Even so, I know that I've done my best to make time for him after work and during weekends.

Now, at age 6, Isaac is becoming very much independent. Since many months ago, he has already learnt to shower himself and wash his own hair. He's been brushing his own teeth twice a day since last year. He changes his own clothes and knows how to throw the dirty clothes into the laundry bag. He puts away his toys after playing, most of the time.

Isaac celebrated his 6th birthday in school, with his classmates and form teacher. I know he's growing up because this year, he told me that I didn't have to go to his school for his birthday party. He will celebrate with his classmates and teachers.

So, we had a simple birthday celebration for him at home. He made a birthday wish before blowing off the candles. And guess what he wished for?

He told us, "I wish to have lots of money."

Okay, now where did that come from? I have no idea.

We bought him a few presents. Hubby suggested hiding the presents all over his room for him to find. That was a hit. The 2 boys had an exciting time running around their room searching for Isaac's presents. The look of excitement on their faces was priceless.

Seeing how Isaac has grown, from a tiny infant to the big boy that he is today, makes me realise once again to cherish the time we have with our kids when they are still small. Afterall, they are children for only a few short years of their lives.

Happy 7 years old:) Haha..maybe its peer influence. My eldest boy has often mentioned about earning more money too and it's sweet when he said that he wanted to use his income to bring me travelling:) Gift hunting is always a memorable and fun experience for kids. We started this activity few years ago and they ask for it every year!

I often wish that my boy will grow up faster, but perhaps I should really learn to cherish these pre-school years. It's true that they grow up very quickly and I find myself missing the days when my boy was just a baby. Btw, I like the idea of 'gift hunting', thanks for that!
